New Projects

Currently, I'm working on some projects for pets. My sister is a volunteer foster mom for the Nebraska Dachshund Rescue. I am currently making doggy diapers (remember plastic pants that covered cloth diapers?) for female dogs. I will post pics when I get them.

Upholstry project

A commissioned project... new cushions for a wicker patio set that includes a couch, rocker, chair, and footstool.
These are the cushions BEFORE the project begins.
Old covers reduced to a bunch of pattern pieces.

Bare cushions awaiting their new coverings.

Couch cushions almost complete...
just need to add buttons to the outer two pillows.
Can't wait to see the new cushions on the wicker!

Quilt for Lily

This is a quilt my cousin commissioned for her daughter (toddler).
Her room is decorated in black & white w/pink accents.
The pattern is Patrick Lose's Hugs & Kisses.
The hearts, stars, Xs & Os are appliqued with the button-hole stitch.

The backing is solid black...
I wanted the quilting to really showcase on the back of the quilt.
I shadow-stitched around the applique'd pieces,
monogrammed XO in the center of the 6" plain blocks,
and used a clasp stitch in the center of the 4-patch blocks.

Here's a close-up of the XO monogram,
some of the shadow stitching, and the decorative stitch
I used inside the narrow sashing between the top & border.

Sunflower Bag remake

This is the same screen bag as prior post, but cut down some. Seems the other one was just too deep for the intended user. I think this one does look much nicer!

Log Cabin Pin 1

Miniature quilts as jewelry!

This pin is 1-3/4" square. It is entirely hand stitched.

First I reduced the pattern to the desired size on the photocopier; then I traced it onto my foundation (a recycled dryer sheet). Then I handstitched the fabric pieces. It took me 2 hours, but this is the first hand-stitched item I've ever done. Then I sandwiched the piece (quilt/batting/cardstock), turned 1/4" to the back and glued. Then I cut a piece of vinyl to cover the back and glued a pin back on.

If I can find a small enough jewelry charm, I thought I'd add a bird!

Envelope Bag

The bag is basically a 9" envelope. The two inside pockets on the left will hold your ID or credit or debit cards. The pockets on the right can hold a cell phone or paper money. I used a magnetic snap closure, but you could be creative with your closure. The strap is long to fit over your head and across one shoulder, but can be shortened with a slip knot if desired.
I made this one for my Mom. She likes to walk to the mall (a mile or so), and this is light enough to carry just her essentials (for shopping) but not inhibit her walk. With the shoulder strap over her head and across one shoulder, she doesn't have to worry about someone "snatching" her purse, and her arms are free to swing while she walks (or hands free for browsing!).

Some pet screen, some fabric.... and wahlah!

Just for fun

Everyone needs one of these!

Sewing Room

My dear husband just relocated his desk to another room, so I've gained the whole room for myself again! Here's a 360...

Rooster Bag

Some of my favorite projects are combining unrelated items into one-of-a-kind creations. This bag started out as two placemats, some pet screen, and drapery tie-backs. This one was a special order for a client to give her mother who loves roosters.

Miss Amelia

This is Amelia!
She used to be Great Aunt Millie's wool coat. My Grandmother gave me the coat when I was younger... and I gave it back to Granny in honor of her sister when she passed away. Her stole is part of the mink collar from the coat. When my Granny passed away, "Amelia" came back to live with me.

For Baby Keris

A no-sew flannel quilt for our newest niece!

These are so fast and easy!!

Not to mention... WARM!

This one was shipped to LeMars IA... the home of "Blue Bunny" ice cream!

This is the sister banner to Ps 119:11
One hangs on the left side of the pulpit;
the other on the right.

A gift for Wentworth Bible Church in Raleigh, NC... (brother-in-law, David, is pastor/elder).

The images are machine appliqued onto flannel.

The text is hand-stenciled in gold paint.

A Quilt for Stephanie

This is the quilt I made for my daughter, Stephanie... she likes pink!
Like the Turning Twenty, the fabrics for the blocks are stacked, then cut identically.
Once the individual pieces are randomly sewn together to form the block, the blocks are rotated to create the design of your choosing.
I quilted a vine design onto the purple border using hearts instead of flowers.

Jessica's Quilt

This "Turning Twenty" quilt was made especially for my daughter, Jessica. She loves colors that are 'natural'... gold, brown, green, beige... so I chose the border first, then selected colors pulled from the border design. The quilt is backed with a solid gold cotton and tied with a variegated brown wool yarn. I machine quilted a floral design into each of the large squares.
